US Military Conducts Deadly Strike in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities
As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Prior Actions
The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Defends Actions Amid Pressure
The government has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official seemed to confirm a wider political objective. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
