Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who were killed in Saturday’s tragic incident in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer persisted following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted sympathies on social media, stating: “There are no words. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the renowned school, according to relatives.

His name was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man arrested in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

The gunman began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a authority informed the media outlet.

Police that entered the hotel recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the suspect was detained, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, one student was released from the hospital, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at the university she was an incredible light in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, companions, and schoolmates and grieve for of his potential.”
