The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like award-winning actors.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
