It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
