Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
