Starting XI

The goalkeeper Had little to do to perform during the opening 45 but then tested from Arbër Hoxha’s curled attempt. One well-timed sliding tackle against an Albanian attacker showed his game intelligence. 6/10

Jarell Quansah Tested by Albania’s main danger through their forward. Played more centrally initially then shifted out wide after a teammate was introduced. 7

John Stones Advanced into midfield on the ball, a familiar role in the past. Sometimes seemed hesitant when carrying play and the tactic abandoned at half-time. Six

The tall defender A nuisance on corners and free-kicks, per usual, perhaps is another option to Stones in the backline as opposed to alongside him. A careless ball in the second half almost led to a goal for Albania. Six

The young full-back A further composed performance from the 20-year-old following his first cap against another side. A teammate failed to make the opportunity from a gorgeous touch over the Albania defence. The role is firmly his so soon. Seven

Adam Wharton A debut start for his country. A bit loose on the ball however his whipped deliveries posed a danger. A handy game manager available to the coach to call upon versus defensive opponents. Shown a yellow for a rash tackle. Six

The midfielder Deliveries from corners and free kicks were dangerous. Enjoyed license to move on the left yet found himself in an offside position upon receiving in shooting positions. Given a merited break after an hour. 6

The star midfielder Operated in a forward spot down the right and did plenty of defensive duties. Showed moments of class and dragged an effort high. Replaced towards the end for Rogers, his competition, after being booked. Seven

The winger Was presented with England’s best chance before halftime, his shot smartly stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. With a teammate staying deep, he was forced to provide width on the right yet his deliveries from the touchline were hit and miss. Taken off with 15 to go. Six

Harry Kane The decisive figure scoring 77th and 78th goals for his country. His first a trademark opportunist's goal and the second a superb header having drifted away off his defender. Aged 32, he continues to improve and England are strong contenders next summer when he's in the team. 8/10

Eberechi Eze Struggled to get into the game from the left. Had a presentable chance following a pass by Bellingham yet Strakosha kept it out. Rashford produced a bigger effect in his place. 5/10
