Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

• Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
• She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
