The esteemed football figure has declared that he is not pursuing a re-entry into football management, pointing out that it would be tough to match the special mission he experienced as the national team coach.

The former coach suggested his aim to channel his attention toward working with the youth and addressing what he labeled a dominant downbeat story presently existing in the country.

Exploring New Avenues Away from The Sport

During a broadcast discussion, he was questioned on rumors linking him with open coaching positions in the top flight and elsewhere.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he replied. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.”

A Passion for Mentorship

Leading up to the release of his upcoming book, Dear England: Lessons in Leadership, Southgate shared that he is “very passionate” about offering guidance for teenagers, drawing on lessons from his time as head coach of the national side from 2016 and 2024, as well as his personal family life.

Southgate maintains that his time coaching England, during which the team transformed from being deeply unpopular to widely supported, holds wider relevance.

“At the beginning, there was a major gap between the team and the fans,” he said. “The public viewed the players as egotistical, yet we successfully reversed that image. The squad’s ability to connect diverse communities was truly powerful.”

Raising Children and Shaping the Next Generation

Reflecting on his role as a parent, the coach remarked: “Every parent aims to provide a solid foundation, yet there comes a time when children stop heeding parental advice. I’ve faced this at home, just like others, and I believe this area is critically important.”

He added: “A downbeat tone surrounds the nation now, and it’s essential to provide hope and advice to the younger generation. While talent abounds, accessing suitable mentors and peer networks is crucial, since these factors heavily influence lifelong outcomes.”

Common Ground Above Discord

The former manager insisted that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the cultural focus often highlights disagreement.

“It’s understandable why people are disaffected,” he stated. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.”

His upcoming publication, the book Dear England, is expected to offer additional perspectives on management and country pride drawn from his remarkable time in football.
