An extensive two-month journey through the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a rest. The vessel left without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff realised the lady was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that travelers and personnel on the vessel were informed that the rest of the voyage had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Commander" banning any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its return.

The ship initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or underwater exploration.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the vessel left the location after an organised excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a walking group.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a breakdown of care and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she desired the investigation would be able to identify what "the organization should have undertaken that might have protected Mother's life".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and she took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to go back, unescorted. Then the boat left, reportedly without doing a roll call.

"At some stage in that sequence, or shortly after, mother succumbed, by herself."

Operator Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their inquiry".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had offered its complete assistance to the loved ones.
