Alina Habba has stepped down as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This comes after a court battle that invalidated her eligibility to hold the office.
Attorney General's Statement
The nation's top law enforcement official, the Attorney General, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the judicial decision made it unworkable for the official to perform her duties.
"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "This battle will now stretch across America."
Judicial Challenge
Her resignation was triggered by a US appeals court determined that she had been unlawfully serving as the top prosecutor. This decision is could influence scores of legal proceedings in the state.
The court said that a temporary posting that did not receive the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the statute on vacant positions.

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will stay on at the DOJ as a senior adviser. She will pursue additional appeals of the disqualification, with hopes of a reversal.
On a social media platform, the Attorney General contended that the judiciary "should not be able to override the appointment of attorneys tasked with performing the fundamental role of the presidency of enforcing the law."
